About  [Edit]

The Illinois Chapter of the Sierra Club is a statewide organization representing over 25,000 individuals committed to protecting the Illinois environment · for our families, for our future. The Illinois Chapter began as the Great Lakes Chapter around 1959. As the organization grew and new chapters developed in surrounding states, the name was changed to the Illinois Chapter. It is now one of 68 Chapters that comprise the Sierra Club.

Mission

To explore, enjoy, and protect the wild places of the earth; to practice and promote the responsible use of the earth`s ecosystems and resources; to educate and enlist humanity to protect and restore the quality of the natural and human environment; and to use all lawful means to carry out those objectives.

Through grassroots activism, public education, lobbying and litigation, the Sierra Club works to protect the health of our environment and the preserve our remaining wild places.

Inspired by nature, we work together to protect our communities and the planet. The Club is America`s oldest, largest and most influential grassroots environmental organization.
