Welcome! Environmental Graduates in Himalaya (EGH) is forum for all environmental science graduates. EGH stands to share the vision of today’s youth in protecting environment, seek experiential learning through job opportunities to build skills and enhance knowledge-based human resources. Therefore, we request INGOs/NGOs to take advantage of our workforce who are young, hardworking and knowledgeable. Also, EGH provides short-term trainings and basic field courses in GIS, ornithology, socio-economic studies, ecological surveys and data analysis. The objective of the EGH are to:
• Enhance the capacity of the youth in environmental studies;
• Provide opportunities for graduates as knowledge-based human resource to INGOs/NGOs;
• Increase awareness on environmental issues through dialogues and seminars with experts; and
• Assist upcoming under graduates and graduate students in their field studies.
Conducting and/or coordinating Research
ACTIVITES AND PROGRAMS
1. GPS/GIS TRAINING. A 20–hour Beginners course on Geographic Information system (GIS) for environmental science participants. The course is about:
• Reading topographic maps and Identify geographic features
• Using GPS/GIS
• GIS software interface
• Understand extension files
• Digitize analogue data into digital form
• Analyze spatial features and Data interpretation
• Prepare output maps
2. DATA GATHERING AND ANALYSIS. A 10–hour Beginners course. The course is about the basics of project design data:
• Work with MS Excel program
• Calculate simple arithmetic and statistical functions
• Environmental Data acquisition and data entry
• Analyze required statistical parameters
• Preparing graphs and tables
• Data transfer to SPSS program and Data query building
• Statistical analysis using SPSS and Data interpretation
3. FIELD ECOLOGY AND TRAINING IN CHITWAN. A one week field program for environmental science participants. The training workshop is about::
• Appreciate nature and understand the geographic features
• Camp craft: Work with rope and install tent in the camp ground
• Usage of GPS to locate and sketch a route map
• Survey vegetations and wildlife habitats
• Identify Plant species, prepare Herbarium and Analyze field data
• Identify birds species and data collection
• Learn and understand economy and culture of the Tharus
• Jungle Walk , Elephant ride, Wildlife watch and Camp fire
4. NATURE CAMPS. A 3-day field program for younger students (undergraduates) in Chitwan National Park. The program introduces:
• Appreciate nature and understand the geographic features
• Work with rope and install tent in the camp ground
• Play environmental awareness games in the group
• Jungle walk, Elephant ride and wildlife watch
• Cultural show and Camp fire
5. ROCK CLIMBING AND ECOLOGY FIELD TRIPS IN KATHMANDU VALLEY.
• One day rock climbing program for all interested students.
• One day ecology field trip to school students to Shivapuri, Chandragiri, Kakani, Jamachok (Raniban) and others.
6. AWARENESS AND GUIDANCE PROGRAM
• EGH will hold regular talk program on concurrent environmental issues. It will call resources person to chair the session to enlighten upon the state of affairs EGH constitutes groups of fresh graduates who deserve to be future environmental and conservation leaders.
