About Us



NACS-J is an independent non-governmental organization [NGO] dedicated to the conservation of the natural ecosystems and biological diversity. Its activities are not influenced by outside concerns as it is funded by membership fees and donations. NACS-J appoints its own teams of experts to conduct research and make recommendations for conservation based on independent scientific data.In addition, NACS-J recognizes the importance of raising environmental awareness among ordinary citizens, and gives high priority to environmental education campaigns for the general public.



Mission and Activities



The mission of NACS-J is to insure the conservation of ecosystems and biological diversity to make recommendations based on scientific data.



Conservation Activities

Conservation of the ecosystems of forests, rivers and streams, wetlands, coral reefs, traditional villages and their surrounding woodlands Recommendations concerning the systems for nature conservation Recommendations concerning the implementation of the World Heritage Convention, the Ramsar Convention and the Biodiversity Convention & international cooperation regarding these treaties Cooperation and coordination with domestic and international nature conservation organizations [such as IUCN and UNESCO].



Conservation Science

Basic research necessary for conservation activities, such as compilation of Red Data Books on Plant Species and Plant Communities Research necessary to resolve conservation controversies, such as water quality monitoring following the closing of the Nagara River Estuary Dam Management of the Nature Conservation Library



Education

Publication of "Shizen Hogo," the monthly bulletin Training of nature conservation educators Publishing environmental education materials Sending nature interpreters to visitor centers of national parks Holding nature conservation seminars, nature outings, and symposiums



Informing the Public

Providing information services through the Internet and facsimile Public relations activities to collect donations and increase memberships and other support
