Background: The Society was formed in August 1977 to promote greater awareness and respect for human rights, to bring to public attention violations of such rights, and to assist the victims of such violations by direct approach to the authorities concerned.



Activities: The Society worked actively for ratification of the UN Covenants by the Egyptian People`s Assembly [parliament], and has held a number of debates and lectures on issues related to human rights. It works on behalf of families of detainees, and a monitor of the human rights situation in Egypt.
