About  [Edit]

Logo Sustainable Ventures (SV) is a non-profit organization dedicated to inspiring and educating beneficial owners - the people who have pension and trust funds invested in their names - to take an active role in the management of their investments.

Yet responsible investing is a challenging task in that current environmental, social, and financial (ESF) performance metrics are neither integrated nor accessible to the general public. In order to inform and engage the marketplace, SV has designed the initiative, the "Our Daily Bread Prize Program", to uncover the integrated ESF "true costs" of products and services.

Phase One of the program was completed in October, 2006. The winning study presented an analytical framework that measured the impacts of social, environmental and financial factors on costs - true costs - associated with a loaf of bread - a grain-based staple that most everyone eats on a daily basis.

In Phase Two of the current Prize Program, SV seeks to further develop the inquiry based on rigorously researched findings from Phase One. Market Leaders will participate in two Implementation Fora where they will work together, address unresolved areas of inquiry, and develop strategies to communicate integrated "true cost" Best Practices to the marketplace.

After the winning study is disseminated after second Implementation Forum to the public for dialogue and use, beneficial owners will be able to understand the implications of their daily decisions and have more influence in their financial affairs. With this information, people also will be able to make more informed choices in their selection and use of products and services to protect and restore our world.
