About  [Edit]

Throughout its nearly 30-year history, NCAT has been involved in helping people learn more about appropriate technology solutions that are good for people and the environment. NCAT`s educational activities take many forms, both inside and outside the classroom, in person and over long distances.

NCAT`s Sustainable Agriculture and Rural Development program helps to provide practical and economical solutions to everyday problems for rural America.

U.S. farm families make use of NCAT's sustainable agriculture program to live a more profitable, healthier and happier life on the farm. NCAT`s Sustainable Agriculture and Rural Development projects provide services and information to help farmers reduce their use of pesticides and other expensive inputs, add a diversity of crops and livestock that add strength and flexibility to farm operations, incorporate new ways to market and add value to what they produce, improve soil fertility and water quality, and educate on how to become better stewards of natural resources and the environment.

The Sustainable Communities Program of the National Center for Appropriate Technology [NCAT] works at the local, regional, and national levels to foster the notion of sustainable development in a community context. The program aims to develop information and demonstration projects that promote a prosperous economy, a healthy environment, and an equitable society--the three pillars of sustainable community development.

The National Center for Appropriate Technology [NCAT] enters the 21st century committed to an equitable, reliable, and sustainable energy future. Energy efficiency and renewable energy sources are the cornerstones for building an energy future that protects the environment while addressing the energy needs of the nation`s most disadvantaged citizens.
