About  [Edit]

The Wider Caribbean Sea Turtle Conservation Network (WIDECAST) is an international scientific network comprised of volunteer Country Coordinators (mainly sea turtle experts, natural resource professionals, and community-based conservationists), an international Board of Scientific Advisors, and Partner Organizations in more than 30 Caribbean States and territories.

Each Coordinator works closely with a national coalition of stakeholders, including biologists, conservationists, resource managers, resource users, policy-makers, educators and others, to ensure that everyone has access to the dialogue, as well as to the unique products and services of the network.

Today WIDECAST embraces the largest network of sea turtle research and conservation projects in the world and provides a unique framework for collaboration that emphasizes science-based tools in the management and conservation of sea turtles, successfully integrating once isolated efforts into an effective, collective response to the challenge of chronically depleted populations. Emphasizing information exchange and training, the network continues to promote strong linkages between science, policy, and public participation in the design and implementation of conservation actions.

Keeping abreast of the best available science and taking the lead in applying it to national and regional management challenges, WIDECAST members sponsor pilot projects, provide technical assistance, and support initiatives that build capacity within and among range states. Among the many tangible results of such active coalition-building and mutual support is the clear evidence of rising sea turtle populations in our region!
