About [Edit]
Florida Oceanographic Society is a non-profit organization founded in 1964 by James H. Rand and five community leaders. The founding directors envisioned the organization to support the study of marine sciences and to disseminate information to the public. Our Mission
Florida Oceanographic`s mission is to protect, preserve and restore Florida`s ocean and coastal ecosystems through education, research and personal stewardship. The succesful accomplishment of this mission will ensure healthy ecosystems for future generations.
Current need of the mission
The timing could not be more critical when it comes to educating our children and adults about Florida's fragile coastal ecosystems. Over sixteen million people now live in Florida with 75% living in coastal communities. We need to make an impact on the present to secure the future. Through our teaching and programming, we can change the generational views of how we care for and preserve our unique environment.
