The mission of AfWiAm is to bring African women in America and their friends to form a Body with a Voice, in order to begin dialogues on the human rights issues facing African children and women. The aim of the organization is to establish a forum where ideas, wisdom and community-based services/organizing with and for children and women are shared by AfWiAm members.
AFWIAM is an organization of women dedicated also to tackling some of the long standing cultural practices that have been oppressive and have perpetuated violence and cultural injustices against African women and children. As a Mother's Mission AfWiAm looks beneath the surface and picks up those tasks which are neglected or overlooked by busy societies.
Membership includes
- African women, irrespective of country of origin, class or creed, who are living and working in North America.
- American women who have passion and interest in partnering with African women.
- Persons of goodwill who desire to support the mission of AfWiAm.
