About  [Edit]

Our Mission is to provide a hands-on rigorous college prep curriculum that extends learning into the local environment so all students graduate with the knowledge values and skills to become lifelong learners and quality stewards of their community – a community where magic happens.

Environmental Charter High School was founded by a coalition of community members in 2000, as an alternative school of choice. It provides students with a personalized and rigorous learning environment where they will successfully prepare for college and become engaged stewards of their community. ECHS is a free public charter school that operates independent of a traditional school district. It was chartered by the Lawndale Elementary School District and serves students in the Lawndale, Hawthorne, Inglewood, Gardena, Los Angeles, Torrance, Redondo Beach, Manhattan Beach, and the surrounding communities. As a public school, Environmental Charter High School does not discriminate on the basis of race, ethnicity, gender, religion, or disability and does not charge tuition.
