SAVE THE EARTH Society has been registered with the Secretary of New York State as a nonprofit since 1990. It began, however, in the early '70s in the East Village of New York City as the Woodstock Nation and gave birth to the Rainbow Family. With the goal of turning spiritual, social, political and environmental practices into a lifestyle, it opened a community action storefront and then a free health food restaurant. Later, settling in Woodstock, the group made its first priority to save the earth.
