About  [Edit]

The Earth Charter Initiative is a global movement based on the participation

and involvement of thousands of organizations, groups and individuals

worldwide. The International Secretariat, its partner organizations, the

volunteer National Committees, and the governing bodies of the Secretariat

are collectively referred to as the Earth Charter Initiative.

Mission

The mission of the Earth Charter Initiative is, "To establish a sound

ethical foundation for the emerging global society and to help build a

sustainable world based on respect for nature, universal human rights,

economic justice and a culture of peace."

Goals

To promote the dissemination, endorsement, and implementation of the Earth

Charter by civil society, business, and government.

- To encourage and support the educational use of the Earth Charter.

- To seek endorsement of the Earth Charter by the UN

Overview of Activities:

Earth Charter activities, such as workshops, public events, development of

education curricula, and lobbying for political support, are promoted around

the world through the Secretariat, Earth Charter Focal Points, partner

organizations, and individuals.

Each organization and group involved in the Initiative brings a different

perspective and approach to the implementation and dissemination of the

Earth Charter in national, regional and local community levels. It is the

constant involvement, energy and enthusiasm of these groups that fuel the

Earth Charter initiative and make it a true civil society process for social

change.
