Instituto Eco–Engenho is a Non Governmental Organization founded in July of 2001, located in Maceió in the State of Alagoas, Brazil. Composed by the team that developed, while in FTV (Fundação Teotônio Vilela), economically and environmentally sustainable energy projects based on renewable sources, in the northeast area of Brazil. Instituto Eco-Engenho’s team has experience in projects development of biomass, photovoltaics, wind energy and is involved in all aspects of project development, from feasibility study to its implementation.
Through out the microenterprise model for rural electrification with PV, (Programa Luz do Sol), the team has been stimulating photovoltaic market in northeast of Brazil, through the use of a model based on Solar Home Systems rental company. The team is developing synergic partnerships with USAID, FTV, Winrock, IDB, CENBIO, CERPCH, E+CO, etc., and actually is participating in two great programs sponsored by International Institutions: Brazil Clean and Efficient Energy Program–BCEEP, supported for USAID/Winrock, developing several initiatives of renewable energy projects and energy efficiency, and Brazil Rural Energy Enterprise Development, B-REED, sponsored by E+CO/United Nations Foundation.
Instituto Eco-Engenho also develops environment projects and sustainable rural development, with the objective of improving live quality and increasing income and preserving the environmental conditions.
