About [Edit]
Quinte Watershed Cleanup is concerned with a number of issues: old landfill sites, toxic waste, the need for habitat restoration and protection, cosmetic pesticide use, climatic change, our growing waste, ground water contamination and the quantity of water.
Since European settlement the natural landscape has been dramatically altered. Two-thirds of original wetlands are gone.
Wetlands are vitally important fish spawning grounds and wildlife habitat. They also cleanse the water. As water makes its way to the Bay, cattails and other plants act as natural filters, soaking up contaminants.
In the last decade QWC has helped to restore and protect several hundred hectares of wetlands, many kilometers of shoreline, and rare habitats such as oak savannahs.
QWC holds workshops, forums and notifies the media throughout the year, to raise public awareness and promote action on issues that affect us.
