About  [Edit]

Mission

PROEVAL-RAXMU is an association

* non-profit and non-governmental

* for nature conservation and sustainable development in Guatemala,

* with special focus on the department of Alta Verapaz, central Guatemala,

* with this vision

Vision

The disappearence of primary forests has accelerated in Guatemala during the last decades and years. Populations of a unique flora and fauna vanish together with these forests. And natural resources, which are most important for the human well beeing, like water, are at risk.

Forested areas are generally located in rural areas where people live in poverty. The only way to promote conservation in these areas is to support the sustainable development of the local communities. Education is the base to appraise the natural resources, because one can not appraise the unknown. Education through practices is a basic tool to generate changes.

PROEVAL-RAXMU`s vision is to link the primary habitats with human well being. The association supports projects contributing to the sustainable development, like:

* Education

* Agriculture

* Reforestation

* Creation of alternative income

* Investigation of natural resources

* Biological Monitoring

Projects

PROEVAL-RAXMU was founded in July 2002. Following the projects which are carried out currently:

* Conservation of Neotropical migratory bird habitat in the Sierra de Chamá biological corridor, Alta Verapaz, Guatemala. [Project with components agriculture, environmental education, bird monitoring.]

* Long-term monitoring of bird communities in Alta Verapaz
