About  [Edit]

Oregon Sustainable Agriculture Land Trust (OSALT) is a statewide charitable organization with a threefold mission:

1) protection of rural and urban agricultural lands from encroachment by non-agricultural uses

2) linking today's growers with tomorrow's by making agricultural lands available to future generations

3) research and education into the sustainable production and distribution of food, fiber and building materials.

Vision

We envision a future in which:

1) Individuals will be aware, in their daily lives, of the interdependence of humanity with the rest of Nature.

2) Everyone will have access to sustainably produced food, fiber and building materials.

3) People will have the ability to produce their own food, fiber and building materials, with access to land, knowledge and resources.

4) Adequate land will be available for the sustainable production of food, fiber and building materials.

5) Those who practice the arts of sustainable production of food, fiber and building materials will be held in high esteem.

Goals

1) OSALT protects urban gardens and farm, ranch and forest lands, holding them in trust for agricultural use by future generations. Lands held in trust by OSALT are, and shall continue to be, used for research as an integral part of their day-to-day operations.

2) OSALT conducts research to develop practical and effective, ecologically, socially and economically balanced sustainable agricultural practices. A key to this research is to conduct it in urban gardens and on working farms, ranches and forest lands.

3) OSALT trains growers in sustainable practices through apprenticeships, seminars, workshops and publications, and seeks to inform the public of the importance of sustainable practices.
