UNIFEM is the women's fund at the United Nations. It provides financial and technical assistance to innovative programmes and strategies to foster women's empowerment and gender equality.



Working in partnership with governments and nongovernmental organizations, as well as other United Nations agencies and development organizations, UNIFEM strives to transform women's lives by advancing fulfilment of international commitments to gender equality, as contained in key plans and agreements adopted by world governments.



Regional Goals



Reduce discrimination and exclusion of women in the context of economic transition and reforms;



- Improve implementation of legislation and policies to end violence against women; and

- Achieve gender equality in democratic governance in times of transition, regional integration, peace and/or recovery from war.
