Background: Asociacion de Desarrollo Economico Laboral Femenino Integral, (ASODELFI), is a private organization created in 1975 by a group of professional women seeking to establish a multi-purpose center for the development of innovative progams for women in the areas of education, health care and legal rights. At the time of its foundation there was no such organization in Costa Rica dedicated solely to the development of women's programs and the defense of women's rights.



Activities: Through programs in education, work training and family development, ASODELFI seeks to protect women's rights and achieve more equitable employment and education opportunities for Costa Rican women. As a result of such activities, ASODELFI played an important role in the formation of a national committee for the evaluation of women's participation in the development of Costa Rica, and in the establishment of the National Council of Women, which is reponsible, on a private level, for studying, counseling and taking action on all national issues affecting women.
