About  [Edit]

The Climate Campaign aims to make the 460 four-year colleges and universities in the Northeast [as well as active high schools] a driving force in reducing air pollution and greenhouse gas emissions in the region. These institutions are a training ground for future leaders, a laboratory for cutting edge research, a place to develop solutions to our biggest challenges, and an economic engine for the region. By making these institutions models of responsible energy policy, students can both have an immediate impact on greenhouse gas emissions and put significant pressure on state governments to follow suit.

The Climate Campaign is a coalition of twelve student environmental networks [ConnPIRG, ECO-Northeast, EnviroCitizen, Free the Planet!, Greenpeace Student Activist Network, MASSPIRG, NJPIRG, NYPIRG, Sierra Student Coalition, Student Environmental Action Coalition, SustainUs and Vermont Campus Energy Group] and represents over 125 northeast student environmental groups.

The coalition works to streamline and unify the northeast student climate movement around four central goals: 1] Building state-based networks of student environmental groups to advocate for responsible state climate policies; 2] Encouraging colleges and universities to reduce their contribution to global warming by buying clean, renewable energy; 3] Pressuring Ford Motor Company to increase the average fuel economy of their fleet; and 4] Supporting local communities in environmental justice struggles.
