About [Edit]
Mission:
As business enterprises outgrow political institutions at the local and national level, business becomes about responsibility. Consumers will never trust those companies that are in business purely for money, but will expect that companies play a social role that accords with their position in society. The new bottom line will be financial, social, and environmental. Sustainable development represents the synthesis of business and environmental protection as partners for long-term growth, equity, and prosperity.
There is clear evidence that "development" as the world knows it is not sustainable. Sustainable development is defined as "development that maximizes standard of living for current generations without adverse negative impacts to the standard of living of future generations".
The members of SDS believe that the business community has the potential to make an immense, lasting impact on sustainable development efforts - an impact that could dwarf that of governmental or non-profit organizations. As the foremost educational institution for current and future business leaders, HBS is ideally positioned to serve as a vehicle for promoting sustainable development through the business community.
