"Sustainable land management through community involvement" is the mission statement of the NZ Landcare Trust.



New Zealand has one of the most efficient and environmentally clean agriculture sectors in the developed world, according to a recent OECD report, but it can be improved. Some land management practices have and are still causing soil erosion and water pollution.



Rural and land-based businesses need to be profitable, but they also need to be sustainable. The Trust provides a unique structure for communities to take control of sensitive environmental issues, to stimulate action, and find solutions.



Grants are available to non-profit, community groups for projects that enhance sustainable land management or biodiversity on private land. The NZ Landcare Trust initiated the grants programme, and will administer the funding. The programme has been made possible by a partnership with Transpower New Zealand, the operator of national grid. The NZ Landcare Trust fosters sustainable land management and biodiversity in New Zealand by working with landcare groups, recreational interests, iwi, farming groups, and community environmental groups.



Transpower recognises its responsibility to contribute to the communities in which it operates and where its staff and customers live and work. Transpower is proud to support the Transpower Landcare Trust Grants Programme, which supports the promotion of sustainable land management and is helping Transpower continue to build positive and effective working relationships with rural New Zealand.
