About COELAP

Mission

Our institute provides leadership in the research and development of environmental law and policy that promotes the public interest and sustainability.

Vision

Our vision is a world in which basic human rights include a safe and healthy environment, achieved through respect for, and preservation of, nature`s integrity and diversity.

Goals

i] To promote an effective and accountable environmental legal and policy framework

ii] To enhance and promote environmental action on the public and political agenda.

Philosophy

Environmental policy cannot be developed in isolation. In order to achieve a balance in our research, we seek to expand our partnerships with environmental leaders in all sectors. Solutions can only be achieved through collaboration and sharing of ideas. Sound policy needs the input and contribution of all stakeholders. Therefore, CIELAP establishes working relationships with all stakeholders.

Our Work

Since 1970, CIELAP has established itself as one of a handful of Canadian organizations that have the competence, the resources and the capabilities to conduct research on environmental law and policy.

Through our work we aim to inform and guide the formulation of policy that affects the environment and sustainability. As an organization that focuses on policy rather than a specific issue, we seek to address emerging issues on various environmental topics and sustainability. Visit our publication centre to access a wealth of publications on numerous environmental issues.

We strive toward objective research that is relevant to all. Our work is balanced, competent and dependable. It encourages communication, cooperation, and collaboration among all stakeholders. In addition to research that guides policy, we conduct events that promote dialogue among groups and sectors through conferences and networking events.

Resources

We have 35 years experience in policy research. We have extensive networks among government, academia, unions, industry, community and faith groups.

Capabilities

We are seen as a leader in policy research. Our resources as an organization allow us to conduct research on a national scale and to address issues in a comprehensive manner. Our network of contacts among various stakeholders, our competence in policy research, and our reputation for excellence allow us to conduct well-balanced research.
