About [Edit]
Rosneath Farm is an Ecovillage development in southwest Western Australia. The property has been carefully designed to enable a comfortable, yet sustainable life style, with much food for body and soul being produced on site.
Major considerations in the design of Rosneath Farm:
Preserve forest and streams.
Use Strata Title for land development and management framework.
Test, develop and use relevant appropriate technologies.
Establish activity licences for farming, service and tourism based livelihoods.
Build a village centre to provide a wide range of services for residents.
Establish a tourist attraction and education centre in the northwest corner.
Fund Infrastructure through 20% of sales revenue.
Use LETS as an economic buffer and recording system.
Pursue Organic certification and practices.
Use Christopher Alexander`s Pattern Language for design.
Design houses suited to extended families.
Provide co-housing options for young and old singles.
One of the few ways non-residents will have access to this private estate is as interns - serious students, who want to live and work and learn with us for three to six months or even longer. Their time with us may be part of a private study tour, or it may be in conjunction with a recognised course they are undertaking.
Projects currently which have a research/project component:
Design of village centre using pattern language.
Planting details of NW corner using Permaculture principles.
Investigation of micro-hydro possibilities from main dam.
Setting up monitoring programs for water, soil, species of flora and fauna.
Design of freezer/laundry Stirling Engine based systems.
Evaluating effectiveness of evaporative trenches.
Designing sustainable wood lot systems for firewood for residents.
Establishing an information management system for the property and its residents.
Graphic design of an electronic newsletter and consulting service.
Undertaking electromagnetic survey of property.
Obtaining the best data set available from authorities and others and digitally mapping same.
Measuring the health of people living at Rosneath regularly in a cost effective manner
