About [Edit]
AMCS is the voice for ours coast and oceans. We work with local communities to protect ocean life and the habitats they call home.
AMCS is an independent, national and not-for-profit organisation that has been operating for over forty years. Our conservation work is funded through the generous support of Australians who want to give something back.
As a not-for-profit charity, AMCS is a membership-based society which is managed by a group of dedicated volunteers and supported financially and participatory by thousands of people around Australia.
AMCS operates a head office in Brisbane, Queensland, and a regional office in Darwin, Northern Territory. AMCS also has active branches in most Australian states and the Northern Territory.
AMCS uses many strategies to achieve its campaign goals:
- We are "voices of the sea" on international, national and regionally focused advisory committees
- We actively persuade and lobby governments and politicians
- We organise and present at conferences and workshops
- We communicate our key messages to the broader community through the public media
- We actively support marine research that helps us better understand our oceans.
- We form partnerships with conservationists and other stakeholders from time-to-time to affect change.
In all its campaigns, AMCS also strives to provide opportunities for the whole community to become involved.
