About [Edit]
Background: The Centro Ecumenico de Documentacao e Informacao, founded in 1974 with church assistance, provides service to churches and popular movements.
Objectives: CEDI is concerned with such social and human rights questions as the exploitation of agricultural workers and abuses against Brazil's indigenous populations.
Activities: CEDI has been attempting to document the past history and present circumstances of Indians throughout the country. Thus, it has been systematically surveying indigenous populations region by region and plans to publish its results as a comprehensive and reliable 18 volume study, each volume taking about two years to compile. CEDI also has a particular interest in research into Indian land questions. CEDI maintains contact with a wide network of scholars and Indianists and its publications strive for factual accuracy, with a minimum of editorializing.
