About [Edit]
Innovative Farmers of Ohio is dedicated to promoting, through research, education, and community-building activities, an agriculture that preserves and strengthens the economic, social, and environmental well-being of Ohio’s farms, farm families, and rural communities and protects and improves the health and productivity of Ohio’s land’s and waterways.
IFO is Making Connections:
Farmer Network: IFO connects its members, facilitates sharing of experiences and stimulates development of new and improved farming practices through farm tours, the learning circles initiative, workshops, and other means
Community Support: Members engaged in community marketing or direct sales help others build similar local food economies, keeping our food sources close to home
State-Wide Partnerships: IFO members are working with Ohio State University Extension, Natural Resources Conservation Service, 13-member groups of the Ohio Food and Farm Network, and other agencies and organizations to promote sustainable agriculture
Regional and National Partnerships: IFO is a member of the Great Lakes Farm Planning Network - a coalition of grassroots farmer organizations interested in how whole farm planning may help farmers integrate their goals for profit, family, and the environment. We are also active members of the Midwest Sustainable Agriculture Working Group.
On-Farm Research Network: Each year, IFO Farmer Collaborators conduct research using methods which will provide scientifically valid results. For many of the innovations IFO farmers use, little information is available from the usual sources. These research results are shared with other farmers and interested folks and help promote the use of alternative practices which maintain or enhance profitability while protecting natural resources.
