About  [Edit]

The Environmental Center of Sustainability (ECOS) is a public benefit non-profit, organized in the state of Oregon in January 2008. Primary to its intended mission is the development and implementation of integrated strategies and programs to sustainability challenges in Oregon, as well as adjacent states in the bio-region. Partnerships and collaborations are key to enable the networking of solutions in areas reflecting environmental, food security, economic, relocalization and cultural changes that affect our region.

ECOS has area projects that promote and enable the networking of businesses, organizations and individuals interested in, as well as committed to, sustainability issues and practices. Various models, methods and projects will be used to inform and empower this group enabling transition through the times ahead of peak oil and climate change

Good design has many layers and pieces that contribute to an integration and ultimate wholeness. To this end ECOS has a number of aspects that tie together and operate independently, as well as cooperatively. Two such ECOS efforts which are underway are ECOS Green Book and the Urban to Farm Connection project. There are other ideas, still in the visioning phase, such as media and publishing, as well as a permanent eco-village and education center. Through the success of ECOS Green Book and the Urban to Farm Connection project, ECOS will further expand and develop these other important efforts toward a sustainable and durable economy and vibrant community
