he Mississippi Valley Field Naturalists (MVFN) is a group of friendly people who share an interest in, and respect for, the natural world within the Mississippi River watershed of Eastern Ontario.
Founded in 1988, MVFN endeavours to increase public interest in, knowledge and understanding of, and appreciation and respect for the natural world within the Mississippi River watershed. This area includes Mississippi Mills, Carleton Place, Lanark Highlands, Beckwith and surrounding areas.
Our group offers monthly events, from evening presentations to weekend field trips on many fascinating nature-related topics. You can socialize with members of various age groups, who range from neophyte nature lovers to knowledgeable field naturalists. Families are most welcome. Also, you can speak out as part of the collective voice of our members, to support and protect local natural areas threatened by pollution or destruction.
Current Membership: 102 memberships; over 180 members.
Key Areas of Interest
- undertake and sponsor study of natural history
- promote better understanding of Natural World
- partner with like organizations
- create and support active community involvement in our environment
- provide expertise and informed advice on environmental issues
- active monitors of natural environment
