About  [Edit]

The US Green Building Council's Redwood Empire Chapter aims to transform local design and construction practices, and use wise design to enhance the quality of our lives and our communities.

Our Vision

In recognition of the fact that a healthy, vibrant natural world is critical to the survival of the human community, we envision a world in which the built environment is seamlessly interconnected with the natural world.

Our Mission

  • To work with local governments, planning agencies, and all green building stakeholders in order to implement the highest standards of Green Building throughout this region.
  • To provide educational opportunities, resources, and technical assistance.
  • To facilitate communication within the local and regional green building communities.

What is the Redwood Empire?

The Redwood Empire is local name for the coastal region of Northern California where the Coastal Redwood tree (sequoia sempervirens) is found. Roughly, the Redwood Empire extends along the Coastal Mountains from just north of San Francisco to the Oregon border. The Redwood Empire Chapter's territory includes: Marin, Sonoma, Napa, Mendocino, Lake, Humboldt and Del Norte Counties. See our map for details.

Besides the majestic Redwood forests, this region is known for its wine production, especially in Sonoma and Napa. And the coast along this stretch of California is some of the most beautiful on the West Coast. Agriculture is still predominant in most of the region, with much of the development along the Highway 101 corridor.
