What is the Redwood Empire?
The Redwood Empire is local name for the coastal region of Northern California where the Coastal Redwood tree (sequoia sempervirens) is found. Roughly, the Redwood Empire extends along the Coastal Mountains from just north of San Francisco to the Oregon border. The Redwood Empire Chapter's territory includes: Marin, Sonoma, Napa, Mendocino, Lake, Humboldt and Del Norte Counties. See our map for details.
Besides the majestic Redwood forests, this region is known for its wine production, especially in Sonoma and Napa. And the coast along this stretch of California is some of the most beautiful on the West Coast. Agriculture is still predominant in most of the region, with much of the development along the Highway 101 corridor.
