About [Edit]
OCETA is a catalyst for action on environmental issues such as climate change, energy efficiency, technology verification, greenhouse gas reduction, site remediation & brownfields redevelopment, solid waste exchange, sustainable development, and water/wastewater treatment.
OCETA is a private sector, not-for-profit corporation with a mandate to provide value-added business services and programs to entrepreneurs, start-up companies and small to medium sized enterprises to assist the process of bringing new environmental technologies and solutions to market and to support sustainable economic development both domestically and internationally.
OCETA has strengthened its mandate by delivering and marketing program initiatives to improve the sustainable performance of the Canadian manufacturing sector. These initiatives utilize independent process assessments to identify opportunities for innovation and change, and organization and delivery of working sessions to share best practices and increase knowledge. The outcomes have resulted in corporate behaviour change, investments in process improvements, increased receptor capacity for innovation, improved industry competitiveness and positive net environmental benefits.
In June 2006, OCETA received funding support from the Ontario Ministry of Research and Innovation as part of the Ontario Research and Commercialization Program to build Industry Receptor Capacity to use and apply innovative technologies and approaches to solve environmental issues. The program is comprised of four major components:
· Discovery Workshops: OCETA organizes, facilitates and delivers “Discovery Workshops”, bringing together faculty members, research institutions and private sector companies to identify, in areas of priority, research projects for funding that involves academic and private sector partners, as a means of generating technical goals and targets that lead to advances in a number of environmental market sectors.
· Route to Market: The “Route to Market” for new technology is made easier if the standards of technology performance and test procedures are clearly defined by stakeholders that include regulators, industrial buyers and provincial and national accreditation agencies. OCETA, and its ETV Canada business division, deliver “Performance Benchmarking” initiatives that create these “road maps” in a number of environmental sectors. Third party independent “Performance Verification” of technology performance against these standards assists in market entry by providing the due diligence required by customers, investors and regulators.
· Business Support to RINs: Regional Innovation Networks (RINs) serve as the foundation of the Province of Ontario’s knowledge, technology transfer and commercialization strategy. OCETA provides the 12 RINs in Ontario, with a range of business commercialization services to meet the needs of their client network. The result is greater client outreach, more partnership formations and more Ontario environmental products and services brought successfully to full commercialization.
· Proof of Principle: In partnership with the Ontario Centers of Excellence (OCE) and Precarn Inc., OCETA administers this funding program designed to accelerate the pre-commercial research and development efforts of Canadian-made environmental technologies that incorporate intelligent systems. Establishing Proof-of-Principle is recognized as a key step to the successful commercialization and deployment of new environmental technologies.
