About [Edit]
Values
Peace Direct recognises that the personal is political. How we behave in undertaking our work must reflect our core values, namely:
Non-violence
Non-violence is the decision to pursue an objective without resorting to violent means. Peace Direct aims to support those committed to using non-violent methods.
Respect
We respect the knowledge and experience of those living and working in conflict areas.
We recognise and celebrate the experience and knowledge of those who are actively pursuing the resolution and transformation of conflict through nonviolent means. We seek to learn from them and to share their expertise more widely.
Transparency
Our decisions and operations must be transparent. This means being open about who we work with and why; how resources are raised and used; and the impact that Peace Direct achieves.
Working together for peace
As conflicts have a complex nature, we believe that is important to address them in multiple ways, at different levels and with a variety of actors. We therefore need to work with and learn from other organisations and institutions in the UK and overseas.
Charitable Aims
“To advance and promote for the benefit of the public in the United Kingdom, Europe and throughout the World:
- the use of conciliation, mediation, adjudication, negotiation and other methods and procedures for the peaceful resolution of relevant conflicts on the basis of respect for the rule of law, internationally recognised human rights and principles of non-violence and thereby relieve the social and economic costs of such relevant conflicts;
- the study of any discipline, including but not limited to domestic and international law, politics, economics, social and natural sciences, insofar as these disciplines or any of them may have a direct or indirect application to the understanding of relevant conflicts and their resolution. In this clause the expression “relevant conflict” means any conflict or potential conflict between nations, racial, ethnic, religious or tribal groups, corporations, commercial organisations or individuals throughout the World.”
Our focus is grass roots peacebuilding in areas of conflict across the world.
