The Roots & Shoots program is about making positive change happen—for our communities, for animals and for the environment. And it all starts with you! With tens of thousands of young people in almost 100 countries, the Roots & Shoots network branches out across the globe, connecting youth of all ages who share a common desire to help make our world a better place. This powerful, youth-driven network fosters a fun, flexible and supportive environment where young people and adults alike come together to share ideas and inspiration, implement successful community service projects and participate in special events and global campaigns.

This is an awesome organization and membership is free for kids. I've been a volunteer group leader with our kids and their friends and class mates since 2004. The kids like the activities because they are fun, they get to be with their friends and they make a difference. Example youth activities we've done: beach cleanups, fundraising parties for local non-profits, International Peace Day demonstration with 78 kids (got photo and story of us in the local paper), and "art from scrap" projects such as creating Earth Day flags from remnant cloth from local clothing mft, sewing re-usable gift bags for Mother's Day and re-using old toys and construction materials to make new toys. Also, the kids have done bake sales to raise money for non-profits such as the Gibbon Conservation Center and Jane Goodall Institute.
