About [Edit]
Third Planet's mission is to assist the general public in learning about and implementing sustainable lifestyles, and to assist traditional cultures in their efforts to rejuvenate, promote and make relevant to the public at larg, their traditional fold art, design and science.
From the outset of operations in 1999 we began working on public awareness and solutions to climate change in the US, while working with indigenous groups in Bolivia to understand their needs.
Early in 2000 we sought observer status to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) to further our work on public awareness about the greenhouse gas threat. Shortly thereafter we were notified of our accreditation to attend COP6 in The Hague to observe the proceedings on implementation of the Kyoto Protocol and to contribute our thoughts on solutions wherever possible.
UNFCCC non-governmental organization (NGO) observer status is important to Third Planet. Ecucation and OUtreach (Article 6 of the Convention) are the cornerstones of our climate change work. We have come a long way since The Hague and we have learned to adapt to political and economic realities, but it's through our outreach projects and experiences that we have learned what's needed at the community and regional level - where we work - and this is how you do it.
-Descriptions of projects and experiences are on the web site: www.thethirdplanet.org
