Building from a foundation of solid scientific
research, gather together a diverse array of artists, scientists,
environmentalists, and others to create and participate in unique
programs that will inspire, educate, and empower everyone on specific
issues surrounding the planet.
That's the
premise behind EcoArts, a not-for-profit event assembling an amazing
array of talent to address the specific environmental challenges that
face us today.
EcoArts 2007 will be held September 14 – October 7 and will include
a a major exhibition, “Weather Report: Art & Climate Change,”
co-presented with the Boulder Museum of Contemporary Art and curated by
the internationally renowned visual art historian, author, and critic
Lucy Lippard. “Weather Report” will include more than 50 artists from
throughout the U.S. and abroad, many of whom are collaborating with
climate change scientists, renewable energy experts, and environmental
specialists of various kinds to create new works that focus on climate
change and a sustainable future. “Weather Report” will be based at
BMoCA, with works also shown at Fiske Planetarium, the National Center
for Atmospheric Research, Norlin Library, the Boulder Public Library
Lawn, and outdoors at various sites throughout the City of Boulder.
“Weather Report” will be on view September 14– December 21.

EcoArts 2007 will also feature a special weekend
called “Indigenous Perspectives on Climate Change” September 21-23 with films from the Arctic to the
Pacific Islands curated by Ava Hamilton (Arapaho), and
talks, workshops, panels, performances, and more.
Invited guests include Mayan priest and elder Don
Alejandro Oxlaj, Quichuan musician and healer Oscar
Santillán, and Denaina Athabaskan attorney for the
Native American Rights Fund Heather Kendall-Miller,
among others.
EcoArts 2007 will also include a variety of talks,
tours, exhibitions, and performances to be announced.
