About [Edit]
Activities:
Recent Activities: A research project on sexual abuse was carried out amongst 500 students from Abidjan and the surrounding area in the past year. A press conference and interview with the media were held. Psychological and legal support were provided in 40 cases where women and children have been victims of sexual exploitation.
SOS Violences Sexuelles participated in activites associated with the Day of the African Child (June 16); The "Say Yes for the Children" campaign; and the launch of the Global Movement for Children.
A representative of SOS attended two international conferences this year: RAFCANE (Réseau africain Francophone Contre l'Abus et la Négligence envers l'Enfant) in Dakar and the Second World Congress against the commercial sexual exploitation of children in Yokohama. SOS also participated in national conferences including a workshop on building capacity with other Ivorian NGOs dealing with children in difficult circumstances as well as a NGO consultation on the follow up of the Second World Congress.
Planned Activities: SOS Violences Sexuelles plans to continue its legal support to victims, and to raise awareness of sexual exploitation of women and children throughout Ivory Coast. In order to provide better psychological support to victims, SOS will seek collaboration with health centers and hospitals in the country.
SOS Violences Sexuelles would like to become more active in national matters related to women and children's health, and attend more national and international meetings that address human rights and sexual abuse. In particular, the organisation would like to be more active on HIV/AIDS issues, as they have seen an increase in the numbers of HIV/AIDS cases. Staff at SOS will encourage early testing for HIV to victims of sexual abuse
Finally, the organisation wants not only to provide psychological support to victims of sexual abuse, but to remove the victim from an abusive situation and ensure full social rehabilitation. SOS Violences Sexuelles wishes to establish vocational or professional training, and appeals for support to undertake such programmes.
