About  [Edit]

The Ecological Building Network is a 501[c]3 non-profit entity as a project of the Tides Centerin San Francisco, California. We are a growing and international association of builders, engineers, architects, academics and developers committed to promoting intelligent building methods and materials for a sustainable future.

The Ecological Building Network [EBNet] was founded in December of 1999 by Bruce King, a structural engineer living and practicing near San Francisco, California. He became interested in alternative building materials when he was hired to engineer the Real Goods Solar Living Center in Hopland, California, a visionary retail store composed of straw-bale and Pisé walls, sustainably harvested lumber, and fly ash concrete. That experience led him to write Buildings of Earth and Straw: Structural Design for Rammed Earth and Straw-Bale Architecture, an introduction to engineering those materials. Mr. King has published many articles on straw-bale, earth, fly ash and other alternative building materials; and given talks, seminars and slide-shows promoting ecological considerations within the building community.

The need for a comprehensive source of information on ecological building materials led Bruce and his colleagues to create the Ecological Building Network. EBNet`s advisory board consists of experts in the field of green building from all over the world who will contribute to EBNet publications and seminars.
