About  [Edit]

Our research and advocacy are made possible by our contributing members. Your membership contribution supports a staff of attorneys, scientists, and other professionals who monitor government and corporate decisions and advocate on the public`s behalf.  In addition we have student chapters supported and directed by college students.  Currently we have chapters at CU-Boulder and CU-Denver and a broader network across the state.

CoPIRG is working in a couple of major issue areas.  We work on consumer protection campaigns focused on stopping consumer ripoffs.  This includes reducing the cost of textbooks and stopping loan companies from ripping-off students, protection consumers cagainst predatory ledning in areas like mortgages and credit cards, stopping identity theft, etc.

In public health we are working to reduce the cost of health care by fighting against the pharmaceutical industry and working to identify ways to reduce administrative costs and focus health care dollars on practices that are the most effective.

We also work in energy to promote energy efficiency so consumers are less beholden to energy spikes as well as reduce global warming.  In addition, we work hard to promote publci transportation as a means to releive congestion and stop the building of unnecessary new highways.

Finally, our student chapters do a number of community service projects from combatting poverty to environmental protection.
