About [Edit]
Mission:
APOPO is a Belgian research organization that was initiated in response to the global landmine problem. APOPO developed a new mine detection technology, whereby rats are used to sniff out and indicate the position of the explosive targets.
APOPO is currently based at the Sokoine University of Agriculture in Tanzania, where African giant pouched rats are trained for mine detection. The first deployment of this technology in Mozambique is in full preparation.
