About  [Edit]

Vida Verde Nature Education is a non-profit/social profit, environmental education center. It provides free, outdoor, overnight field trips for at-risk youth of the San Francisco Bay Area. Our goal is to plant, in the students, a seed of commitment to the natural world through experiential programs in organic farming, ecology, cooking and sustainable living.

Vida Verde Nature Education was formed in the fall of 2001 by Shawn Sears and Laura Dickerson. After two years teaching in some of the most under-resourced schools in the country, Shawn and Laura decided to form Vida Verde Nature Education. They saw a pressing need for economically disadvantaged youth to be given experiences with nature, gardening, and animals. Because many schools do not have money for field trips, and many students in the Bay Area cannot afford to pay field trip fees, Vida Verde provides all its programs for free to under-resourced schools.
