About [Edit]
MATE (Man And The Environment) is a small non-profit and non-governmental organisation (NGO), based in Madagascar.
It works for the promotion of conservation by development and underlines the importance of the work in association with rural populations to handle the dramatic problem of the threats of overexploitation and disappearance of natural resources.
MATE aims at offering to the local communities some alternative options of management of the natural resources which are economically and ecologically sustainable.
Besides Madagascar constitues one of the world priorities in term of conservation of the biodiversity (according to UNESCO). The island shelters a wide range of animal and vegetable species which we find nowhere else in the world.
It is important for MATE to support practices favorable to the environment while working on the promotion of the rights of the rural populations and by favoring the increase of their level of life.
Until now, very few actions of conservation were led by agencies outside the national parks and with the rural populations by taking their way of life as priority of intervention.
