About [Edit]
South Asia faces large scale environmental degradation and widespread poverty. A holistic approach that recognizes the interrelationship between environment and development issues is essential to understand and address these problems. Addressing the range of issues that arise at the interface of environment and development requires a large community of interdisciplinary researchers.
The Centre for Interdisciplinary Studies in Environment and Development [CISED], a centre for excellence promoted by ISEC, was formed in the year 2001 to address the above mentioned issues. The mission of CISED is to promote environmentally sound and socially just development by contributing critically and constructively to public and academic debate. CISED’s mandate is to work on issues at the interface of environment and development through rigorous interdisciplinary research, teaching, networking and dialogue with civil society. CISED promotes collaborations between disciplinary experts and the integration of insights from multiple disciplines into individual research. CISED is also committed to participating in political and transformatory action within civil society.
The creation of CISED has been facilitated by an institution development grant from the Ford Foundation
