About  [Edit]

ATNN aims to assist, empower and increase the economic opportunities available to member small-scale producers and artisans in Nigerian communities through:

- Co-ordination and emancipation of less privileged and physically challenged rural artisans through deliberate job creation and income generation

- Community mobilization and self actualization through advocacy and skills development to raise awareness of resource potentials available in the community and how citizens can lead sustainable livelihoods through their responsible exploitation

- Marketing of members` products under fair trade terms

Alternative Trade Network of Nigeria (ATNN) is a registered nonprofit, nongovernmental organization that coordinates a range of fair trade business development services and provides direct trade and export market access for small-scale producers and artisans throughout Nigeria. ATNN has approximately 82 artisan groups involving more than 2,000 artisans. These groups consist of both traditional and modern craftspeople who are often marginalized either socially, physically or economically. ATNN firmly believes in the mutual promotion and development of both traditional and creative skills as a means to assist individual economic empowerment and also strengthen community income generation and development. Many of the producer members are at different stages and levels of business development.

ATNN is a founding member of the International Federation for Alternative Trade. Many artisans, through their membership of ATNN, are able to send their children to school, eat a satisfying diet and improve their housing.
