About Us
In June 1952, fifteen enthusiastic naturalists attended the first meeting of the South Peel Naturalists` Club, which was held at the Port Credit home of Lucie McDougall. The group formed a vision for what they wanted to achieve. That vision is summarized in this statement, published in a 1962 club newsletter:”
“We have an established place among those who feel strongly that the natural resources of Ontario are worthy of respect and therefore, of preservation. This Club endeavours to do its part in ensuring that future generations may still have opportunity for contact with the earth and the things that live on it – that earth on which, in the last analysis, we all absolutely depend.”
Today, we have over 200 active members from Mississauga, Oakville and surrounding communities. Through our various activities and publications, we provide an opportunity for members to enjoy nature, to expand their knowledge, and to share experiences with other members. Through the Club’s special interest groups, members learn about specific subjects of interest to them, or become involved in local conservation issues.
Our Mission is:
* To encourage the enjoyment and study of nature and the environment
* To promote the preservation and conservation of our flora and fauna, land and water
* To foster awareness and education of our natural surroundings
