About  [Edit]

Mission statement

The CHRC protects, enhances, and restores California's rivers and watersheds adversely affected by hydropower operation using collaboration, scientific, legal and policy expertise, and public involvement.

Strategic initiatives

In pursuit of its mission, the CHRC seeks to accomplish the following strategic initiatives:

protect, enhance, and restore California rivers adversely affected by hydropower

expand stakeholder and public support for hydropower reform

effectively leverage the coalition’s collective resources

Core values

The CHRC has identified the following core values, which build upon its mission statement, and underlie and inform the goals, outcomes, and strategies identified in its strategic plan:

We believe that California’s river ecosystems should be protected and restored.

The fishing, recreation, and conservation organizations that comprise the CHRC are united in their desire to protect and restore healthy, free-flowing rivers in California. The CHRC advocates restoring self-sustaining populations of native species by restoring the functioning components of the ecosystem. These interrelated components include natural flow regimes in rivers and adequate aquatic and riparian habitat. It is also important to maintain public access for the responsible, sustainable enjoyment of these public resources.
