Mission
The mission of Willmore Wilderness Preservation and Historical Foundation is to operate as a non-profit foundation. The Foundation preserves the history of the area, focuses on the advancement of education of the park; restores historical packtrails and sites; and enhances use of Willmore Wilderness Park for Albertans and visitors.
Goals of the Foundation:
To find and restore traditional packtrails in the park that were used by aboriginal people, trappers, guides and outfitters.
To create mapping of the traditional packtrails in Willmore Wilderness Park.
To find, preserve, GPS and record the location of historical buildings.
To find, preserve, GPS and record the location of traditional sites such as grave sites, campsites and other historical sites.
To preserve historical information: stories, pictures, photographs and other relevant information.
To create a written history of the area through the publication of books and pamphlets.
To provide workshops and seminars about Willmore Wilderness Park to increase public awareness.
To provide workshops and seminars on traditional activities in the Willmore Wilderness Park such as humane trapping, improving horsemanship skills, edible and medicinal plants etc.
The Foundation has a strong focus to keep the traditional skills alive, which were used to survive in the mountains. Education programs have a special focus on teaching youth ...and the young at heart, old knowledge and the mountain way of life.
The Foundation benefits the community through bringing to life the trails, the stories, pictures and the creation of a forum for the advancement of education regarding Willmore Wilderness Park.
The Foundation is committed to ensuring that the Willmore Wilderness Act remains intact .... as it was originally legislated.
