About  [Edit]

Background:

CILIP was founded in 1978 with the aim of making information available to the public concerning the development of police organizations and operations internationally.

Objectives:

CILIP assumes that the growth of the police force inevitably diminishes a liberal democracy and that "the drive for the open discussion and controls of the police force can only occur through publicity about the police, its structure, activities, work methods and success."

Activities:

Efforts are made to include information about secret service organizations and the institutions with which they and the police come into contact. CILIP believes "...that everything possible should be attempted to defend our basic political and civil rights and that whenever we see these rights being endangered, we should bring this to the public's attention..." CILIP's newsletter contains articles, analysis and information on police research; data of police development; legal developments; Human rights civil liberties; police in action; police operations; international police cooperation; police aid to developing countries; and control of the police and documentation.
