About [Edit]
BARHC street medics have a range of medical training and experience, from basic first aid to Chinese and herbal medicine, to Wilderness First Responders, to EMTs, RNs, and MDs. Organized in a non-hierarchical fashion, we believe people with all levels of health care training and experience can make an important contribution to our work in support of activists and the communities in which we work and live. In addition to rapid response on the street, BARHC members also work as clinicians, offering first aid at events ranging from the Ruckus activist training camp to the annual Rainbow Gathering to the Reclaim the Commons actions in June 2004.
Street medics receiving training in how to treat tear gas and pepper spray, as well as traumatic injuries due to police batons or projectiles. Less dramatic but equally important, we provide care for sprains, strains, blisters, and heat-related illness, helping activists stay in the streets.
