About [Edit]
Global Deaf Connection is increasing social, economic and educational opportunities for Deaf people internationally, especially in developing nations. Based on the premise that education leads to opportunity, Global Deaf Connection (GDC) was created to improve equal access to education and employment by closing the gap between the number of Deaf children enrolled in school and the number of Deaf adults in the professional world.
Our strategy is twofold: To increase the ratio of deaf teachers to deaf students in developing countries and to educate and train their hearing teachers in the methods of deaf education and sign language.
THE VISION of GDC is to see Deaf people around the world actively using their native sign language to support Deaf children to excel academically, gain meaningful employment, continually further human rights, and make major contributions that sustain their Deaf communities.
OUR MISSION is to develop self-sustaining cycles of Deaf education and leadership skills through advocacy, multi-cultural exchange, college scholarships, and mentor support. These cycles will empower Deaf people in developing countries to achieve greater access to universal human rights which will increase their social and economic self sufficiency.
