The empowerment of disadvantaged rural and tribal people.
HiLDA achieves these through a range of inter-connected programmes and projects:
The Akshaya Programme Self-help groups, Micro-credit and Community Business for alternative employment and local economy which includes the Community Business Development Programme.
Sexual Health Programmes and counselling to reduce risk factors and change attitudes and practices, especially with regard to HIV/AIDS.
Bodhana single teacher schools in mother tongue to impart primary education.
Health `camps` in rural areas giving free medical checks and encouraging preventive measures.
Legal clinics to offer free, initial advice to individuals and groups.
Watershed management to retain soil fertility and ecology.
Promotion of organic agriculture and traditional herbal medicines.
Community tourism for cultural exchange and widening the opportunities in the global village.
Leadership development and other training programmes.
Action research for technology development and strategic planning.
