About [Edit]
The Brisbane Social Forum is an exciting opportunity for activists, thinkers and the general community to meet to discuss issues of peace, globalisation, social justice, democracy and environmental sustainability. The Brisbane Social Forum is not just for activists. Everyone concerned about issues of peace, social justice and globalisation is welcome to attend. The Forum will be an "open space" of speakers, workshops and performances created for and by your participation.
The overall aim is to encourage discussion and co-operation between groups and individuals who are working on or are interested in these issues in order to strengthen, build and inspire a broader movement for social change.
The forum aims to provide an opportunity to:
Develop "cross-movement" strategies
Share information and learn about current issues and campaigns
Debate tactics, strategies and politics
Discuss visions and alternatives to "capitalism" and "globalisation"
Network and build alliances between community organisations
The Brisbane Social Forum is structured using a modified "open space" process. Individuals and organisations are encouraged to nominate a time and a space for workshops prior to the event to facilitate planning. Please contact the organisers if you want to book a space to hold a workshop or alternatively just turn up at the forum on the first day and suggest a workshop and a space will be provided for you. Through this open space-style model, BSF is shaped by the concerns and issues of the participants who attend.
The Brisbane Social forum has over the last three years developed a reputation for interesting speakers, diverse workshops and a friendly, inclusive atmosphere. The forum is not only a talk fest past forums have included concerts, exhibitions and films. We aim to continue with this commitment to defining changing the world not only in terms of politics and economics but also in terms of art, culture and the social.
